myEV3RSTORM

myEV3RSTORM was built as an attempt to reconcile many complaints launched at EV3RSTORM both on Mindstorms Community and the LMBs. I worked for hours on EV3RSTORM, changing this or that addressing the issues I’ve seen/heard. Many changes have been made to EV3RSTORM throughout. The color scheme is totally revamped to fit the more neutral colors many favor. And here is the result: myEV3RSTORM.

The most obvious feature is the mouth. myEV3RSTORM has a mouth now, like a real human. More good news: AWAY WITH THE MOHAWK! 😛 I needed those pieces for something else special, as you’ll see further down. The shoulder panels have also been rearranged to look more like my ALPHA R3X III (3.0) shoulders.

The torso! The side body panels are now black (previously white). Turn myEV3RSTORM around and you’ll gasp at the extreme changes! I added depth, width, and most importantly structure to the rear. I think he looks pretty muscular like my dad. 😀 Also noticeable are “Smooth Curves” stickers. The overall structure is stronger due to more connecting points.

Here is the left arm (though technically really the right arm). myEV3RSTORM is more like NXT Alpha Rex 2.0 than ever. The color sensor right above the grasping hand, just like Alpha Rex 2.0. To fill in the empty space where the color sensor initially was, I added some small panels gradually sloping. It reads, “Fuel4Speed”. The hand is altogether upgraded! The hand is now white, and the bottom is wider so it can actually hold objects better than it used to be able to.

Here is the right arm (though technically really the left arm). Again, myEV3RSTORM is more like NXT Alpha Rex with the Touch Sensor on its arm. But I didn’t remove the motor, so the touch sensor had to go right beside it. This arm features the ultimate spinning weapon that uses all 6 HF swords angled slightly outward. I call it the hex-blade (in respect to the original 3 bladed tri-blade)! The touch sensor has a special piece connected that protrudes out the side for easy touch sensor access. Also, the arm mechanism that allows the arm to move up and down has been improved! Instead of one knob, there are two for a larger grip surface.

The most obvious change to the legs are probably the new, wider panels; partly due to the new tread design as shown in the NeXT step. Notice that the panel also reads, “Smooth Curves”. Some color accents were added to the rear of the legs to the motors. Also, I added some creative touches to the upper leg. Now onto the NEW tread design! The treads originally featured the hubs on the rear and two 20z bevel gears (spaced) on the front. I’ve changed that. Now it uses hubs in both front and back. It works better this way because EV3RSTORM would always fall forward too often from the transition of carpet to hard floor. myEV3RSTORM falls less often now. I also added a red “fang” piece to the end of the skate design to look like skating brakes!
